Apollo 20 Students Get an Early Start to a Promising New School Year
August 16, 2010Students at the first nine campuses in the Apollo 20 project started school on Monday, August 16, a week ahead of other HISD students. Superintendent of Schools Terry B. Grier, Board of Education members, elected officials, and Harvard economist and Apollo 20 advisor Roland Fryer visited many of the schools to welcome students and parents, teachers, math tutors, and principals. The new school-improvement initiative includes a longer school year and school day and daily math tutoring for all sixth and ninth graders.
