Schools Welcome Students to Start of 2010–2011 School Year
August 23, 2010Approximately 200,000 students and thousands of teachers and principals in almost 300 campuses returned to school to kick off another year on Monday, August 23. Superintendent of Schools Terry B. Grier and Board of Education members visited Martin Luther King Jr. Early Childhood Education Center, Piney Point and J. P. Henderson Elementary Schools, Alexander Hamilton Middle School, and Charles Milby High School to welcome back students, parents, and employees. The first nine schools in HISD’s new Apollo 20 project launched their longer school year on August 16.
