EXPO 2008

The Central Region’s Third Annual Student EXPO was held on Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Central Region Office.  Central Region families took part in this annual spring event which showcases student talent in the performing and fine arts.  Student artwork was displayed and theatrical, dance, band, and choral presentations continues throughout the day. 

In addition to the presentations, families enjoyed food, fun activity booths, and met some of the soccer players from the Houston Dynamo.  Teammates from this winning team helped to sign up students for “The Millionaire’s Club,” a summer reading program designed to encourage all of HISD’s 200,000 students to read five books over the summer for a total of one million books.  Research shows that reading five books on an appropriate level during the summer can provide students almost the same educational benefit as if they had attended a summer school program.  To start the program off right, more than 400 of the students attending the EXPO received a free book that matches his/her Lexile level.
