Connecting to a Printer in Windows XP |
| There are a number of ways that one can connect to a printer
under Windows XP. This method is best for cases where you do not know
the exact path and name of the printer. |
| |
Double-click My Network Places on your
desktop
|
Click on the Entire Network link.
|
|
Double-click the Microsoft Windows Network
icon or listing.

|
Double-click on the icon or name of the domain you use when you
log-in to the network. For most, but not all, West Region schools
this will be the West domain.

|
Find the listing or icon for your school's server - This will usually
be the name of your school or an abbreviation for your school follwed
by -bdc. Double-click the icon.
|
|
You will see icons representing printers on a network. These will
be named. There appear to be no real naming conventions in HISD.
How printers are named range from the cute (see below) to the slightly
bewildering to the completely arcane. You may need to ask your technology
facilitator on campus for assistance. Some schools also attach network
names to the side or top of the actual printer. Once you have determined
which printer you want to use, right-click on the printer's icon
and select Connect...

|
Eventually the dialog box like the one below disappears. That means
you are successfully connected. You may want to take the opportunity
to connect to other printers.
