Setting Up the HP Scanjet N6010
For Use With Campus Online

Important
It appears that the PageManager software which comes with the scanner is profile sensitive - the settings are saved with a user's log-on. The problem this creates is that each user who logs on to the computer and wants to use the scanner with Campus Online will need to configure the scanner as outlined below. Once done, the settings are saved for that specific user.

Step 1 - Install the scanner software

Insert the installation CD that comes with the scanner. Follow the instructions that will appear - accept all the default settings. Remember, do not plug the scanner into your computer prior to completing the software installation and rebooting your computer.
If one wanted to be picky, shouldn't the instruction actually read "Click to select the options you do not want to install?"

When prompted, be friendly to the environment and to the HISD budget and select the energy-saving option...
Be friendly to polar bears

Step 2 - Configuring the scanner after installation - Scan Settings

Once you have restarted your computer and attached the scanner using the provided USB cable, open the scanner software (PageManager).

From the Tools menu select Scan Settings...
So why are we sitting scanning answer documents when there are all these lovely places to visit? Oh well...

Match all the settings shown in the image below. The custom setting under the Scan Size: should be 8.50 inches by 11.00 inches. Any incorrect setting may prevent the accurate scoring of answer documents. Click OK when you have finished adjusting the settings.

In order to set the folder into which the scans produced by the scanner should be placed, in the folder list in the left panel seen below find Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > TeachersWorkbench and then click once, to highlight, the Scanned_Answersheets folder. The next time you open the software (or press the scan button - see below) the program will remember the folder you have selected. You will need to reset the folder if for some reason you change the scanning target folder.
Okay, so how geeky is that?! A program called PrintFun?!?

Step 3 - Configuring the scanner after installation - Presto! Scan Button Settings

For the button on the front of the scanner to work correctly make sure to adjust your settings as detailed below.

From the Tools menu select Presto! Scan Button Settings...

That's it!

Now you can place answer documents face down in the scanner feed and press the upper left button on the front of the scanner to start the scanning. You do not even need to open the scanner software prior to scanning.
