CONTINUING THE WORK ON
HISD'S POWER OBJECTIVE INITIATIVE!

To ensure a viable curriculum and improved student achievement, the departments of Elementary and Secondary Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment in July 2007 assembled a district-wide cohort of teachers at Sam Houston High School to prioritize and identify HISD Power Objectives in the four core content areas.

HISD Power Objectives
serve as a subset of essential knowledge and skills in the Horizontal Alignment Planning Guides (HAPG) for teachers and administrators to use as a tool for instructional planning and common assessments.  The work accomplished in July by hundreds of HISD educators set a solid foundation for this ongoing  initiative to provide an effective, aligned, and quality curriculum for our students.  A follow-up effort is scheduled for January 2008.

Participating cohort members are teachers who have a deep understanding of the grade level content/course they represent, and who are master teachers committed to their own and their colleagues’ professional development.  They serve the region and the district during school year 2007-2008 as this initiative progresses.
