Accelerated
Reading Instruction and
Accelerated Mathematics Instruction
|
Academic success
is at the heart of the Student Success Initiative (SSI). which was enacted by the 76th
Texas Legislature in 1999. To advance to the next grade
level, a student in Texas public schools must pass the TAKS reading test at grade 3, the
reading and mathematics tests at grade 5, and the reading and mathematics tests at grade 8
or by unanimous decision of the placement committee.
The Accelerated Reading Instruction/Accelerated
Mathematics Instruction (ARI/AMI) program is a major component of the Student Success
Initiative. To ensure that all students receive the instruction and support they need
to be academically successful in reading and mathematics, the state provides funding to
ensure that immediate, targeted, research-based instruction is provided to students
identified as struggling in reading or mathematics. |
