What
is an MTT?
The Texas Legislature
approved a new master teacher certification known as the Master
Technology Teacher Certification. The certification recognizes the
need for master teacher status in the areas of teaching and mentoring
with technology. To receive the Master Technology Teacher certification,
a teacher is required to attend an SBEC-approved program (such as
the Houston ISD program) and pass the state Master Technology Teacher
certification test administered by the State of Texas.
The MTT certification
should be distinguished from other certifications offered by the
State in that it is a master-level certification. The MTT certification
indicates mastery in the area of teaching with technology, much
like the Master Reading Teacher Certification and the Master Mathematics
Teacher Certification do in their respective content areas.
A teacher holding
a MTT certification might serve as a campus technology teacher,
a classroom teacher, a librarian, or other instructional staff.
The master technology teacher serves as a catalyst for staff development
in the area of technology innovation.
For additional
information regarding the standards that will be addressed and the
draft of the MTT test framework, please see the State Board for
Educator Certification website at http://www.sbec.state.tx.us/SBECOnline/default.asp.
